Finishing a bachelor’s degree is every person’s dream. Obtaining that degree leads to their first job, first salary, first car, and their first flat. However, what happens if a person pursues early childhood education? What comes next?
What are the options after finishing early childhood education?
Finishing a degree in early childhood education opens various paths. Most take the academic route and become teachers. Others explore what’s beyond the academic world. Some become home-based child care workers, while others work their way to become school directors.
However, before choosing the path for you, it is vital to obtain a CDA license online. To start with, the online course requires a minimum of 120 hours of study. This depends on the weight of the subject. Some conduct training from six (6) months up until a year. That gives ample time to excel in the field of early childhood education. Some require 480 hours of work in the field before obtaining their license.
Once the training is done, schedule a visit to get accredited and become a child development associate. Here are the career options you have when you become a certified CDA.
Become a preschool teacher
Parents are meticulous with their toddlers’ preschool and want the best teachers. Preschool is a crucial time that helps mold the toddler. This phase develops their motor and social skills as they explore the world.
Teachers introduce books, music, arts and crafts, and other activities. For a toddler, preschool contributes a lot to the toddler’s life as their first schooling experience.
Be a kindergarten teacher
Before entering preschool, kids go through kindergarten. Kindergarten teachers help them transition into a more structured school environment. Teachers begin introducing seating arrangements and nap times. They need a holistic educational background since they teach subjects like Math, English, and Reading in the classrooms.
Taking the kindergarten teaching path means teachers must deal with the academic and emotional intelligence of the students. They prepare students for first grade and beyond. Demand for kindergarten teachers fluctuates depending on the location and their educational background.
Every teacher needs an assistant in the classroom. Their responsibilities focus on helping the lead teachers. Being a teaching assistant encompasses reinforcing what the lead teacher taught during the day. They help in creating lesson materials, checking the attendance, monitoring behavior, and preventing cheating during exams. Generally, they help enforce the rules inside and outside the classroom.
Some schools require teaching assistants to finish high school. This makes the position perfect for those who want to take early childhood education as a major. It allows students to work with children and observe them in the classroom.
Home child care worker
A home child care worker ensures the health, safety, and education of the children assigned to them. Most of the people know this as a nanny. Child care workers educate children by providing structured activities similar to those found in schools. They help children communicate with their parents.
An educational consultant aid schools and other educational institutions to help them formulate curriculum fit for the students. In addition, they create sets of programs, rules and regulations that mold the behavior of the students. These help predict the possible effects for the whole academic year.
However, not all consultants are limited to that. Some help other organizations that are related to child care and education. With a degree in early childhood education, it helps them collaborate with school administrators.
A school director supervises an entire school. They help in setting up the curriculum for the academic year. A lot of day care centers, preschools, and other educational institutions need administrative staff to implement these rules. Moreover, a school director primarily trains the staff on how to handle the children.
With an early childhood education degree, there are a lot of career paths for you to choose from. If this inspires you to become an educator, begin the journey by taking courses for your CDA license at National CDA Training.
The path of a child educator starts with learning the basics of how to take care of children. For starters, education begins at home with parents and continues at schools. Some choose the best preschool that parents know will teach the best to their children.
But here are reasons to study early childhood education.
Early childhood education suits those who love children
People who love children find a path that brings children their way. Some go into teaching to get closer with children. For those interested in working with children, studying early childhood education is a good first step. Handling children takes a great deal of time. Preparing for this gives the best chance to perform well on the job.

Freely communicating thoughts becomes easier
When someone achieves a degree in early childhood education, they get a full grasp of how the minds of the young children work. They formulate effective strategies for educating children.
If they aspire to be the best educators in the field, they need to be open to expression. When working with kids, educators need to continuously have fresh ideas that keep them engaged. Most of the time, teachers agree that teaching children comes easier than teaching teens and adults. Teens and adults, who already have developed their own views of the world, often question what the teacher says.
Teachers must strategize how to conquer these teaching challenges they will face every day.
Interest in sharing the knowledge gained
Before stepping into the field, fellow aspirants find different reasons to why they chose that field. However, in a number of cases, educators choose this field since they want to pass on whatever knowledge they gained throughout their journey.
Most children look up to their teachers especially on how they teach them. Being the second parents at school, they admire them on how they study, manage things, and communicate with others.
When teachers pursue this field, it begins with their love for children and the willingness to share their passion. Harnessing that passion is necessary to pursue a long-term career in the field.
Find a career related to early childhood education
People find a career they want to last. The path to education provides a lot of job opportunities. Taking the path of early childhood education may be a good choice. Currently, the population around the world continues to grow and there will always be a need for more teachers.

National Gratitude Month is celebrated annually in November. It’s a month to be more mindful and thankful for all we have and been given.
Gratitude is more than just saying “thank you.”. Gratitude makes us focus more on the positive side of our lives rather than dwelling on the negative. This is why practicing gratitude daily helps us develop a deeper connection to our own self, the people around us, to the world and our Creator.

We are once again in September and it’s National Preparedness Month. If you are not aware, September is the month dedicated to preparing and educating people on disasters. Natural disasters like wildfires, earthquakes, floods, and hurricanes can occur without notice. That is why being ready for anything is important.
The first thing to have when a disaster strikes is a meeting spot or evacuation center. This could be the nearest fire station or a 24-hour grocery store that are a safe distance away from your home. These meeting spots may depend on the event but it’s important to establish a place and have a solid plan ahead of time. Once you have this setup, it’s time to think about other possible scenarios.
Here are some ways to prepare yourself and your family:
Preparation starts at home
Develop a family disaster plan. Like mentioned earlier, plan a place to evacuate should any disaster arises. If you are separated when an emergency occurs, plan how you will reconnect. Make a disaster kit. This should contain essential items to survive 3 to 5 days. Drinking water, first aid kit, identification documents, non-perishable food, flashlights, and battery-operated radios are some of the things you should pack.
Stay updated and informed
Information is available for everyone. It can be from federal, state, or local resources. Stay informed and learn what to do before, during, and after a disaster.
Help others as well
Most municipalities in the US have a disaster response and recovery plan made by the local government. If you want to help out, you can be an affiliate with an agency that is engaged in disaster response and relief.
Do not stop preparing
Disasters occur without any prior notice so it’s best to be prepared at all times. Revisit and update your family disaster plans time and time again. Change the supplies in the disaster kit so the food and water stay fresh. Being prepared will give you more chances of survival, it is key.
Some situations you can prepare for:
This is scary whether you are at home or not. Know how to protect your home from potential invasions to keep you and your family safe. You can start by checking the locks on your doors and windows. Secure any pet entrances and purchase a security system for your home. The presence of even one security camera will chase away burglars. If a break in happens and you are at home, here are a few things to remember.
- Stay calm and collected. Don’t panic. You will feel an adrenaline rush, use it to help you stay alert.
- Go to a safe room and call 911.
- If in the event, your safe room is not accessible, have evacuation plans. This can be window ladders or back door routes.
- Do not engage with the intruder. Do not let them know that you’ve called for help.
- Another thing to remember is to keep your car keys close to you so that you can hit the panic button on it. This will create a distraction and alert the neighbors.
- In case of an extreme situation, it would be good to have self-defense knowledge.
Responding to a situation like this is to practice. It’s important that you can think straight so that you will know how to defend your family and keep them safe.
Be sure that your home has the correct amount of fire alarms as this is the first line of defense. Practice setting them off and educating family members on what they should do if this alarm rings. Make an evacuation plan in your home and assign tasks to family members. In situations like this, it is very important to not panic. Make sure everyone is accounted for, even the pets, and then call 911 for help. If there is thick smoke, use something like a shirt to cover your mouth and nose to avoid inhaling it. If in the event, your clothing catches fire, know how to stop, drop and roll. Practice these safety measures so that if this disaster happens, family members will know how to respond.
If you live somewhere that’s prone to flooding, it’s good to know the warning signs and how to evacuate to a safe place. If you find your family and yourself trapped once the flood has begun, know that you should never enter fast flowing water on foot or in a vehicle. This can get you hurt or worse.
When water has flooded in your home, disconnect all electrical appliances and turn off your main electricity. Move furniture and other valuable stuff to higher ground. Depending on the frequency of the flood, it may be worth it to flood-proof your home.
Being prepared is the key to being safe from disasters. Take these simple actions and teach them to your family. Stay alert, stay safe!
This month of August is the best time to focus on managing stress and promoting self-care and healthy routines. You know why? Because it is National Wellness Month! Studies have shown how self-care helps reduce stress and promote happiness. And putting efforts into making a change in your lifestyle can significantly affect your health in positive ways. If you want to take the first step to living a healthier life, read the tips below.
Drink a glass of water in the morning
One of the very first things you should do when you wake up in the morning is to drink a glass of room temperature water. This will help cleanse your system and flush out toxins before you even eat any food. Also try adding a twist to your regular water by putting a slice of lemon or lime for a citrusy taste.
Get enough sleep
The importance of sleep cannot be emphasized any more. Regardless of your age, it’s imperative that you get an adequate amount of sleep every night. A lack of sleep is detrimental to your health in several different ways. Not only will it cause damage to your heart, it can also make you feel constantly tired, irritable and can reduce your attention span.
Eat healthy snacks
In between meals snacks don’t always have to be junk foods. You can snack the right way by switching to healthier alternatives. Instead of consuming too many sweet and starchy foods like candies, potato chips, and cookies, you may want to have nuts, berries and fruits. These foods are rich in vitamins and minerals and are good for your health.
We are all aware of the benefits of working out and exercise. However, these are some things we usually take for granted. Exercising doesn’t always mean going to the gym and spending an hour or so sweating out. It can be as simple as taking a daily walk to or from work. Instead of taking the elevators, use the stairs as often as possible. Or take your dog for a long walk during weekends. The important thing is that you take time to do some physical activity every chance you get. Having an active lifestyle can improve your heart health and overall well-being.
Connect with people
People who don’t have friends are said to have higher likelihood of sickness and early death. Their stress and depression can make them physically ill. This is the reason why experts highly recommend that we make time to connect and nurture healthy relationships with the people around us. Spend more time with your family, friends and loved ones. No matter how busy you are, make it a point to get in touch with someone close to your heart. Catch up with your friends during your free time. Visit your parents on the weekends. Doing these things can significantly impact your health, even in the later years.
Try new activities
Finding a new hobby can help reduce stress. If you haven’t done anything fun and exciting for a while, it’s time to look for a new activity that you can enjoy with your friends or family. Think about going hiking, playing a new sport or trying out a new adventure. This will help you unwind and even give you opportunities to meet other people who share the same interest. But if you want to try out some activities alone, that’s perfectly fine, too. For as long as it pumps your adrenaline and makes you happy, you can never go wrong with it!
Ditch the unhealthy habits
If you have some habits that you know are detrimental to your health, stop them now before it’s too late. This includes smoking and excessive drinking. Smoking reduces a person’s lifespan by several years. It can affect your lungs as well as your skin. It is one of the major causes of death in the world. If you want to live longer, ditch the unhealthy habits and always choose life!
There is no better time to live a healthy lifestyle than now. Start making these small changes and you’ll be amazed at how they can improve your life in general.
Love to knit or do you prefer whitewater rafting?
Maybe you love to sell your jewelry on Etsy or you give scrapbooks to your family as gifts each Christmas.
Whatever it is that you – and your co-workers – love to do on your time off, one of the most surprising ways to learn more about your co-workers is to discover their hobbies.
For example, maybe you’ll find out that the soft spoken receptionist for the sales department loves to scream out rock and roll songs at the neighborhood karaoke bar. Or you’ll learn that your “tough as nails” supervisor has won the Annual Chili Cook-off for the past three years running.
When you take the time to share your hobby with others you deepen their understanding of what you enjoy which can increase their appreciation for who you are as a team member.
Why it’s important to choose a hobby
While some hobbies are more expensive than others (e.g. collecting antique cars), all of them offer many benefits with little to no drawbacks.
Can relieve stress
Hobbies allow us to disengage from our everyday work and other obligations, relieving stress and helping to rejuvenate our minds and our bodies.
Challenge your brain
While some hobbies require more thought than others (e.g. playing chess) when you ask your brain to do something different, such as learning a new hobby, it stimulates your mind and forces it to form new thought patterns.
Allow you to leave a legacy
A homemade quilt, passed down through the family, a story about your childhood, a scrapbook filled with your dreams, travels, family photos and stories…all of these are wonderful ways to leave a legacy for the generations that follow you.
And they’re all a type of hobby that is easily learned and can also be passed down from generation to generation.
Make a little extra cash if you want
Whether your goal is to make your hobby pay for itself, or you’d like to earn some extra income doing what you love, hobbies can be an enjoyable way to make money.
If you have a hobby that you love to do, use this month – National Hobby Month – as a good excuse to share that information with your co-workers.
You may find out that one or more of them have similar interests outside of work, or each of you may be entirely different. It doesn’t really matter what kinds of hobbies you enjoy, the most important thing is taking the time to learn more about each other and find ways to forge connections that help you function together as a well oiled machine.
Unless you live under a rock, your life has been impacted by the efforts of a volunteer.
There’s just no way around it.
Volunteers come in all shapes and sizes …from the local church youth group raising money for the homeless, to the first responders in rural communities everywhere, people are giving their time and their talents to help others.
This month, the nation takes time to honor the efforts of the amazing men, women and children, who make the world a better place through volunteering.
While a great way to celebrate National Volunteer Month is to thank every volunteer you meet, a more fulfilling way to observe this holiday is to start volunteering yourself!
Here are some of the reasons why people choose to volunteer…perhaps they’ll encourage you to volunteer too!
1. It reduces stress
You shouldn’t be.
When you’re focused on meeting the needs of others, any normal “worry routines” you’ve developed are interrupted, thus reducing your stress levels.
Volunteers report feeling more joy, optimism and control over their own situations, strengthening their immune systems and giving them a better quality of life.
2. It saves resources
The Corporation for National and Community Service estimates that in California, a volunteer’s time is worth $26.87 per hour!
When people volunteer their time and energy it helps their local communities save money for other needed improvements. For example, when communities aren’t paying someone to clean up the roadways, they can use that money towards other things, such as the community food pantry.
3. It provides experience
Think you’d like to make a career switch? Volunteer your time in the industry you think you’d like to be involved in, and see for yourself if it would be worth the effort to change careers.
Volunteering can also help you make connections that could make the transition to another career easier.
4. It builds self esteem and fuels personal growth
When you make the effort to volunteer at something that is outside of your comfort zone, you learn more about yourself.
You build skills and gain confidence in yourself and your abilities. This in turn will lead to the desire to stretch yourself even more in your own personal life as well.
5. It strengthens your community
Volunteers often contribute to the following kinds of community businesses and programs.:
- Daycare and eldercare
- Schools (tutoring, literacy programs, assisting educators in the classroom)
- Youth programs (after-school, mentoring, etc.)
- Community public works (cleaning up public areas such as parks or roadways)
6. It helps to build your network
When you volunteer, you’re exposed to people and organizations outside of your normal sphere of contacts. This helps both you and your community because the more individuals you connect with, the more opportunities you have to pull together resources to help meet the needs of your community.
While it may feel uncomfortable working with others you wouldn’t normally work with, the experience will encourage you to come up with creative solutions that you might not have thought of otherwise.
7. It’s a lot of fun
Working together on a worthwhile project, while rewarding, can be frustrating if you forget to have fun.
Bottom line, everyone working together is doing so because they have a passion for helping others, so remember to keep it light as you work towards the goals you each have in common.
8. It helps you learn a lot about…
- Existing local resources for individuals in the community who are in need.
- The inner mechanics of the government by working with local non-profit agencies
- Yourself. You may discover hidden talents you didn’t know you had!
9. It’s personally satisfying
When you’ve set out to accomplish a goal, in partnership with others in your community, and you finally achieve that goal, the feeling of personal satisfaction is like nothing else.
Knowing that you’ve helped to improve the lives of others in your community, and helped to make it stronger, is a very satisfying feeling…one that you’ll want to repeat, over and over!
